Easy Rider Tractor Steering Knob, March 16, 2010

This review is from: Good Vibrations 120 Easy Rider Tight Turn Lawn Mower Steering Knob (Lawn & Patio)
INSTALL: Installing my steering knob was pretty self explanatory. However, you should know that this product, comes with two spacers. Spacer "A" is for medium sized steering wheels. While spacer "B" is for thin sized wheels, and you don't even need a spacer at all, for thick sized wheels.

All I had to do, is take the allen wrench, which they supplied with the product, and remove the screw. Then I pulled the arm out, and installed spacer "A". Then I placed the arm over the steering wheel. (screw side facing inside of wheel) I then tightened it down very tight with the allen wrench. (The tighter the better, to keep it from moving around, on the steering wheel.)

EXPERIENCE: My experience with this product has been a good one. I got this, because after hours of mowing, my arms and hands usually get sore. This is not good, because it lessens my productivity. The other reason is, backing up trailers, can sometimes be a big hassle without one.

The steering knob, delivers smooth movement with my hand, and delivers a fluid motion, to the wheels. Its still not as good as having power steering, but its the next best thing. I been able to operate this for 30 minutes, without a single hand or arm pain. And I find, it makes backing up much easier as well.

CONCLUSION: In conclusion, I feel that this is a quality steering knob, that is going to last a long time. It cuts down on my hand and arm strain, and allows me to work more productively. It makes turning and backing up easier. If you are disabled in some way, I highly recommend you pickup one of these! And cause this comes in multiple colors, just like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get. lol

I read how another reviewer had difficulty installing this spinner. I installed one on my 17 year old Lawn Boy using the larger of the 2 spacers. It might help having a 3rd hand to assist but it wasn't bad mounting it. Turn the Allen screw slightly while lining it up with the threaded insert and it'll go right in. The spacer fits one way only, lining up with the notches in the mounting band.

Once installed it helps to free up one hand while steering. It's great for quick turns in small radius areas. It's personal preference but I mounted mine at the 2 o'clock position. They come in red or green. Worth the money.

Steering Wheel Damage, June 20, 2010

This is a very nice steering knob but make certain you want this before hand. I have a newer lawn tractor with a vinyl covered steering wheel. It will scar the wheel where ever it's mounted. Once done it's there if you decide to remove it. On that basis alone I can't recomend this product.

I purchased this spinner due to its appearance but soon found it difficult to install. It adjusts to large and small diameter wheels with inserts and tightens with a limited play screw, thus making it necessary to have it cranked out as far as possible while forcing it into the slot to connect. Even with two people pressing on it, it was impossible to make it tight. I have spinners on my boat and lawn tractors but this one was by far the most difficult to install. If you have a very large diameter wheel, then it might be perfect.

Not what I thought I was ordering., October 13, 2010

I was looking for a red Good Vibrations 120 Easy Rider Mower Steering Knob. I thought that I had found it. The picture was of a red one and there was no choice of colors to pick from. When I received it, I had been sent a green one. I guess that they just send whatever they need to get rid of. I wish I had known. I had passed on a green one that cost less at a store where I live. I wanted to get one that would not stick out like a sore thumb on my mower. Rather than go through the trouble of returning it, I will give it to my son-in-law. His mower is green. I learned my lesson. I found a red one at a Sears store in the mall.

this spinner can be very difficult to install.but once you have it on it works great.dont you wish you could meet the engineers who come up with these ideas?
the trick is that the threaded cylinder where the screw goes revoles if you put a nail or something in the hole to line up the screw you can get it on.I put it on a new craftsman mower and found i had to take it off and put the largest spacer.so dont even bother with the other one.you can use a piece of clear tubing or hose if it wont snug up all the way.
